Hi, we are Rob and Lou Ann McMillen. Welcome to the Real Us!
We are the hosts of this website focused on marriage intimacy.
We have been married for 48+ years and have a deep love for couples who struggle in marriage.
We met in High School after Rob noticed Lou Ann’s picture in the High School Yearbook.
Rob was smitten from their first date and they continued to date for the next 4+ years.
Rob was an active believer, but Lou Ann was more of a traditional church-goer.
After a year of dating, she prayed, in a Jack In the Box parking lot, to receive Jesus as a personal savior.
Three years later I graduated from college and we were married. We initially moved to California and later, back to Texas.
Like most newlyweds we were broke, overly confident and naive in many ways.
Early in our marriage, we sensed that God was preparing us to work with married couples.
At that point we were just beginners at marriage and had a lot to learn.
Over the years, our marriage was wounded by my pursuit of career success, people-pleasing, pride and serious anger issues.
Ultimately God used a business failure to get my attention.
With the help of our church and close friends I walked through repentance to find a new freedom from anger and become a more loving husband.
In 2008, we began serving in the re|engage Marriage ministry at Watermark Church in Dallas. Since then we have facilitated 15 groups, mentored leaders and worked with dozens of couples.
We enjoy hiking, backpacking, tandem cycling, traveling, time with family, Texas BBQ and an occasional margarita.
We have two married daughters, two wonderful son-in-laws and eight grandchildren.
With the Real Us Ministry, we offer encouragement and resources for marriages based on the re|engage marriage ministry principles and the SYMBIS assessment..
