Why Your Marriage should Impact Others

Over the next weeks,
I want to offer you

NINE MARKS of a GREAT MARRIAGE.

So what does a GREAT MARRIAGE look like?  I’ve put to together nine characteristics that stand out to me when I see couples who have truly GREAT MARRIAGES.  You won’t necessarily see these couples on TV, writing books or speaking at seminars, but they are a living testimony to God’s work in their relationship.

Let’s look at the first characteristic.

#1 Great Marriages Change the World

A couple with a great marriage has a powerful and positive impact on their world.  Much of that is through their influence with neighbors, relatives, friends, co-workers and the larger community.

The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Priscilla greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house.1st Corinthians 16:19

Often they are unaware of their influence, but it shows in these ways.

  • They offer hope, peace, authenticity and strength to the community.

  • They are givers and contributors to those around them.

  • They bring truth to the lives of those they interact with.

  • Their children receive a stable home life and learn valuable relational skills.

  • They represent the love of Christ for His body.

  • They provide an example to aspire to marriage in the future.

  • They don’t waste energy on their sin and selfishness so they have more for others.

  • They reduce the poverty, crime, addiction, abuse and theft in their community.

  • They value other marriages.

  • They illustrate the joy of intimacy to a world that knows little of it.

Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus.
Romans 16:3

A GREAT MARRIAGE isn’t a side issue.  It’s not just a nice thing.
It’s one of the most important things in our world!

It’s the very foundation that society builds upon.

Apollos began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.

Acts 18:26

Discuss these Questions with your Spouse!

1. How is our marriage positively impacting our neighbors, family, friends and community?

2. How could we more actively encourage others in their marriages?

3. When the Bible talks about the marriage of Jesus to His bride, what does that say about the importance of marriage?
